Based on 12 criteria

DESIGN & BUILD

The Scribe 2 is large by e-reader standards — the 10.2-inch display requires a two-handed grip for comfortable use. The aluminum back is premium and the flush front glass gives it a tablet-like feel. The Premium Pen attaches magnetically to the side and charges wirelessly from the device.

PERFORMANCE

E-readers don't need raw performance, and the Scribe 2 is fast enough for its purpose. Page turns are instant, handwriting recognition is responsive, and the AI notebook summary feature processes notes quickly. The Kindle OS is simple and focused.

DISPLAY

The 10.2-inch e-ink Carta 1300 display at 300 PPI is the best e-ink panel available. The flush front glass eliminates the parallax gap that made earlier Scribe models feel less natural for writing. The adjustable warm and cool front light is excellent for reading in any environment.

BATTERY LIFE

Weeks of reading, months on standby — e-ink displays are extraordinarily efficient. In our testing, reading for 2 hours daily, the Scribe 2 lasted over 6 weeks on a single charge. Writing uses more power, but you'll still get weeks of use.

VERDICT

The Kindle Scribe 2 is the best e-reader and digital notebook available. If you read a lot and want to replace paper notebooks, the combination of the Kindle library, Premium Pen, and AI summaries is compelling. The price is high for an e-reader, but the value is there.
